| | | | Dear Kakashka | CUSTOMER NUMBER:.712370 | | | | This month I am very excited to introduce our new stamp issue because it's such a fun and cheeky look at ourselves. The A to Z of New Zealand stamp issue is a veritable 'T is for Tiki' tour around our history, heritage and culture in true Kiwi style - where else would 'L' stand for 'Log o'wood', referring of course to that sought after rugby trophy, the Ranfurly Shield! There's 'B is for Beehive' a fitting celebration of our national parliament and its designer, Sir Basil Spence; 'D is for Dog' none other than Wal's faithful friend from cartoon strip, Footrot Flats; and 'Z is for Zeeland' which resulted after Dutch explorer and discoverer Abel Tasman visited New Zealand and relates to an island off the coast of the Netherlands; to name a few. I'd also like to remind you about the coin recently released to celebrate another Kiwi icon, Sir Edmund Hillary. As a true Kiwi great, Sir Edmund Hillary was most known for being the first man to climb Mt Everest, but that was just one of his many life achievements. He became a tireless worker and benefactor, helping to improve the lives of many in his beloved Nepal. Two coins are available, gold proof and silver proof, both are inscripted with 'a lifetime of achievement'. Finally, we'd like to thank all the customers who took part in our 2008 Annual Customer Satisfaction Survey for their feedback and support of the New Zealand stamps programme. This year almost 1000 people responded, up on 700 last year. Overall there was plenty of positive food for thought! Please also join us in congratulating the 10 lucky winners of the prize draw that accompanied the questionnaire. Each receives a copy of The New Zealand Collection 2007. The winners were: Mr F Evans - Dorset, UK; Mrs Glenys Taylor - Drury, NZ; Mrs Pauline Schwartz - Paraparaumu, NZ; Mr Samuel R McNaught - Christchurch, NZ; Mr Tony Lord - Christchurch, NZ; Mr Allan R McKain - Manukau, NZ; Mr Donald Ion - Rotorua, NZ; Mr Alan E Kahn - California, USA; Mr Tony Reynolds - Pukekohe, NZ; Mr Bevyn Craw - Christchurch, NZ. Yours sincerely Ivor Masters General Manager Stamps and Collectables | | | | | | | | | A to Z of New Zealand | Here's your opportunity to take a tiki tour through the A to Z of New Zealand culture, history, heritage and downright kiwiana. This momentous four-yearly event, which dates back to 776 BC and the plains of ancient Olympia, is the premier event on the international sporting calendar. With a long history of outstanding Olympic successes behind them, the 2008 New Zealand team has plenty of motivation! It's a team spirit that has taken generations of teams from this small, isolated country to compete against the best in the world - and often to return victorious. Our performance at the 2004 Games in Athens yielded three golds and two silvers - can we do better this year? The drama, the action and the excitement of the Olympics are superbly captured in the first day cover. Fearless, resolute and at the peak of their physical and mental fitness, our athletes are ready - perhaps more than ever in their lives - to represent their country as champions of their sports. | | | | | | Children's Health - Investing in the Future | | As athletes from around the world gather to compete in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, New Zealand Post applauds the efforts of our young achievers of the future with the 2008 Children's Health stamp collection. Titled 'Investing for the Future', the collection recognises the work of New Zealand's Children's Health Camps (Te Puna Whaiora) in transforming children's lives. Children's Health: Investing for the Future includes a first day cover, miniature sheet and miniature sheet first day cover. Beautifully illustrated, they capture the energy and enthusiasm of young people at sport and play - the sports stars, business people and leaders and influencers of our future. 10 cents from each stamp goes to the Children's Health Camps to help with the good work they undertake. | | | | | | | | | | Sir Edmund Hillary - A Lifetime of Achievement | "In some ways I believe I epitomise the average New Zealander: I have modest abilities, I combine these with a good deal of determination, and I rather like to succeed." One of New Zealand's best loved national heroes, Sir Edmund Hillary's life was filled with many great achievements that earned him worldwide fame. The first man to conquer Mount Everest in 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary went on to devote much of his life to improving those of others, especially the people of his beloved Nepal. Released with the exclusive support of Lady Hillary, we are proud to offer these limited edition New Zealand coins to you in a choice of ¼ ounce 24 carat gold or 1 oz pure silver proof finishes. | | | | | | 2008 New Zealand Silver Dollar V | This much anticipated finale in the annual New Zealand Silver Dollar coin series honours the Haast tokoeka (Apteryx australis 'Haast') - one of our largest and most endangered kiwi species.
