Dear Kakashka

New Zealand's first glow in the dark stamps

I'm always so excited when our stamp designers come up with new approaches to stamp design.

That's what we've done with our 2009 Scenic stamps, which feature stunning photographs of five New Zealand lighthouses. Recognising their vital role in providing light to guide early traders and travellers to safe waters, with many still in operation today. With this unique stamp issue we've used special print technology that enable the stamps to glow in the dark. If you're anything like me, you'll be finding somewhere dark so you can see the effects for yourself!

The stamp issue celebrates the 150th anniversary of New Zealand's first lighthouse, built at Pencarrow Head in 1859 to illuminate the entrance to Wellington harbour. Others were subsequently built, and today, many continue to have an important role for shipping navigation in New Zealand's often treacherous coastline.

As you'll see on our website, the stamps are just beautiful - a superb tribute to these outstanding landmarks.

New lunar series earns you triple Rewards Points

Talking of landmarks, the annual celebrations of the Chinese New Year are becoming hugely popular with Kiwis - a true reflection of our increasingly diverse, multicultural community and a recognition of the strong links between China and New Zealand.

For the past 12 years New Zealand Post has joined the fun with a Chinese Lunar stamp series. In 2009, we're delighted to start another series with the Year of the Ox. The three stamps and accompanying products really capture the colour and energy of this occasion. To help celebrate this fabulous new series, we are offering triple Stamp Rewards points on all Year of the Ox products ordered until 31 March 2009. What a great way to kick start your Stamp Rewards for the 2009 year!

Finally, I'm delighted to announce the release of the first coins in the Icons of New Zealand series. This three-year collection will celebrate New Zealand's kiwi and its tie to other icons of New Zealand's beautiful natural environment. The first limited edition coins are available in gold proof, silver proof and silver bullion finishes. These coins will sell fast - so order yours today!

Yours sincerely

Christmas 2008 Stamps

christmas 2008

The story of Christmas may be the same across the world, but people's experiences and perceptions of Christmas vary immensely. For some New Zealanders, it's a family tradition repeated year after year with all the trimmings of turkey and Christmas pudding - while for others it's a day at the beach with the barbecue and a beer. It's a diversity we celebrate in style, with our Christmas 2008 stamps.
