A GIANT offer for those who are big on collecting
Around 80 million years ago, the land mass we know as New Zealand separated from the supercontinent Gondwanaland and made its way into the South Pacific. Over time evolved a range of fantastic, huge native birds, such as the giant moa and giant eagle, insects like the giant weta, and massive ocean dwellers including the colossal squid and southern right whale.
80 million years later... New Zealand Post is thrilled to offer the Giants of New Zealand stamp and coin release. The five stamps in this issue are of truly mammoth proportions. The stamps are 28 percent larger than an average New Zealand Post stamp. What's more, the flagship of this release is an informative presentation pack that is three times the size of a usual presentation pack. It includes five fridge magnets of the giants featured and it's still only $19.90!
As you'll see on the website, the illustrations on the stamps by artist Dave Gunson really bring these creatures to life - and are a colourful memento of our incredible natural heritage.
Also available in this release is a limited edition set of five pure silver bullion coins. These coins feature the five animals that appear on the stamps and, as with the stamps, the local designer, Cue Design, has really encapsulated these animals. You can read more about this individually numbered coin set on our website.
Preserve the Polar Regions and Glaciers
In 2009 more than 30 postal administrations will be issuing stamp products on climate change, the common theme being Preserve the Polar Regions and Glaciers. A shared feature of all these products is the ice crystal insignia. New Zealand Post has produced a special miniature sheet for this series. You can read more about this product below.
With the unique coins, and stamps the size of these, such an offer is almost as rare as the giants featured. I'm very excited about this giant issue, and I think you will be too.
Yours sincerely
