Dear Kakashka
January 2010

Honouring New Zealand's Maori art

It is with great pleasure that I bring you news of the latest New Zealand legal tender commemorative coins. The latest coins celebrate an internationally recognised and lasting symbol of Maori art - the heitiki.

Following the successful 2009 Matariki stamp issue are two coins, crafted from 1oz pure 0.999 gold and 0.999 silver. Each coin illustrates the Raponi heitiki that was commissioned for the 2009 Matariki stamp series and featured on the $1 stamp.

2010 Maori Art - Heitiki coins

Both coins are presented in beautifully crafted waka huia (treasure boxes) specially designed by Warren McGrath, Tohunga Whakairo (master carver) to the Maori King. 45,000-year-old kauri timber was used to create the waka huia for the $10 gold coin, while the $1 silver coin is also housed in a waka huia of native New Zealand timber.

These limited edition coins are real treasures of our time, and like the Pukaki gold coin are a fantastic acquisition for existing and prospective collectors. Read more about the innovative colour used on the silver coin and the unique wooden waka huia that showcase both coins below.

Mail with Personality

In February, we are improving the range of Personalised Stamps that are available when you want to send mail with personality. Personalised Stamps have been incredibly popular since they were first produced. This latest instalment not only reflects the international postage requirements, but also adds another dimension to this product.

Talking of things personalised, now is the time to order the Personalised Postage labels issued during 2009. For the first time we have also created a 'Year of Issue' cover. The addition of this product was driven by customer feedback, and if you enjoy collecting Personalised Postage labels, this is a must for you!

It's time to redeem your Kiwi Collector points earned during 2009

You'll see your rewards total to the left, so please take a few minutes to choose from the fantastic selection of products exclusive to the Kiwi Collector programme. Make sure you complete the form soon, as you need to return it to us by 31 March 2010!

Game Bird Habitat Collection

The Game Bird Habitat Collection is also a thing of beauty. This year, in conjunction with Fish and Game New Zealand, we mark World Wetlands Day with products that depict the mallard duck, the most well known and recognised of all New Zealand ducks.

I'm sure you'll agree these new products are an exciting start to 2010. I look forward to hearing from you soon, and bringing you more desirable collectables in the coming months.

Your sincerely

Niue Christmas 2009

niue christmas 2009

While people all over the world celebrate Christmas in many different ways, it's often a time of thanksgiving and prayer. In 2009, we honour this tradition by showcasing, through stamps, a selection of stained glass windows from Niue's Ekalesia Millennium Hall and the Lakepa Ekalesia Church.
