Dear Kakashka
April 2010

Taking New Zealand to the world

It's hard to imagine 70 million people attending a single event - but that's what the organisers of the upcoming Expo 2010 Shanghai China expect.

On 1 May, Shanghai will welcome the world to this six-month event, which promises to be the biggest Expo the world has ever seen. More than 190 countries and 50 international organisations are expected to attend, along with almost 100 foreign leaders.

Of course New Zealand will be there - interpreting the Expo's theme of 'Better City, Better Life' with a pavilion dedicated to the concept of 'Cities of Nature, Living between Land and Sky'. It sounds fantastic, so if you're offered a chance to go and see it for yourself, I suggest you grab it!

We're marking our nation's participation in the Expo with some very special stamp products that capture the remarkable similarities between the New Zealand and Chinese cultures. From our pohutukawa and kaitiaki to China's peonies and Fu Dog, we have some unique links that are well worth recognising. And we do it in style, with an unusual stamp shape and innovative products that you'll see when you visit our website.

To complete your collection, I highly recommend you order the commemorative souvenir envelope that we're releasing on the day the Expo opens. It's a great way to remember one of the most significant events of 2010.

Another major event on this year's international stamp calendar is the London 2010 International Stamp Exhibition, also opening in May. I'm looking forward to representing New Zealand Post at this once-a-decade occasion, which will feature the finest competitive exhibits from collectors around the world. You can have your own record of this amazing event by ordering the exhibition miniature sheet and exhibition first day cover that we're issuing in its honour.

Our website is packed with information about these two issues. I urge you to read more now.

Your sincerely

Expo 2010 Shanghai China

expo 2010 shanghai china

Celebrating our nation's participation at 'Expo 2010 Shanghai China', we present an exciting collection of stamp products that capture the remarkable similarities between the cultures of New Zealand and China.

Inspired by prominent aspects of the New Zealand pavilion, the five stamps are 80mm by 30mm. To celebrate the opening of the Expo we have created a special souvenir cover, to be issued on 1 May. This souvenir cover is unique as it has two front sides.

London 2010 International Stamp Exhibition

london international stamp exhibition

May is the month in which stamp collectors, dealers, auctioneers, and postal administrations from around the world, will attend the London 2010 International Stamp Exhibition.

The exhibition is part of the year-long London 2010: Festival of Stamps, which marks the centenary of the accession of King George V, 'the philatelist king'. We're marking this amazing event by issuing an exhibition miniature sheet and souvenir first day cover.

The ANZAC Series: Remembrance

the anzac series: remembrance

'Remembrance' is the theme of this, the third stamp release in New Zealand Post's ANZAC Series. It's a reminder to us all to honour the courage, tenacity and loyalty of those who have fought for freedom on the other side of the world.

Ancient Reptiles of New Zealand

ancient reptiles of new zealand

Grab your binoculars and experience New Zealand's prehistoric reptiles as you've never seen them before. The Ancient Reptiles of New Zealand stamp and coin issue explores the behaviour and habitats of this exceptional group of animals, as if an explorer has travelled back in time and observed them directly.

The stamps are 28 percent larger than normal stamps and the presentation pack is full of interesting items such as an A2 map that traces the path of these reptiles to Aotearoa New Zealand, an informative miniature sheet and stickers of all five reptiles.

2010 Annual Coin Issue - Maui's Dolphin

2010 annual coin issue - maui's dolphin

Sail the waters off the North Island's north-western coast and you may be treated to a sight of the world's rarest marine dolphin - and the hero of New Zealand Post's 2010 annual coin.

In 2010, we salute this beautiful mammal through two intricately designed $5 New Zealand legal tender coins that capture its grace and oneness with the sea.

Ancient Reptiles of New Zealand - Silver bullion coin set

silver bullion coin set

This set reproduces the stamp illustrations in high detail on pure silver (0.999) bullion coins. The coins are sold as numbered sets and presented in an innovative leather journal. The journal also follows the theme of exploration, and comes complete with a set of stamps, a booklet containing information on the reptiles, a fun map that traces the path of these reptiles through Gondwanaland to Aotearoa New Zealand.

Limited numbers available.
